![]() FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS DO I HAVE TO AUDITION TO BE ACCEPTED TO YFA? Yes, an audition is required for acceptance into Youth Film Academy. Placement is by interview as well for the Summer Programs. WHAT IF I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH AUDITIONING? We’re looking for instincts and ability, not experience. However you must prepare by memorizing a scene from a script. If you have questions, contact one of our admission counselors at 703-891-7888. DO I HAVE TO ATTEND AN AUDITION IN PERSON? Yes, Video conferencing is not admissible. DO I NEED EXPERIENCE TO TAKE CLASSES? No, you need personality, talent and drive. Acceptance is based on your audition and interviewing skills. Any of our One-Year Film or Conservatory Programs requires a callback audition. DO YOU ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS? Yes. We provide a list of available housing for students in any of our One-Year Programs and the one-week Summer Program. Early applications are recommended. YFA is eligible to certify enrollment for F-1 visas for those who qualify. All students must be fluent and literate in English. HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN A CLASS? Classes have between 8 and 18 students. WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I AM ADMITTED TO YOUTH FILM ACADEMY? You will be assigned a Professor and a class according to your skills, age, and program. WHO ARE THE YOUTH FILM ACADEMY PROFESSORS? The Youth Film Academy professors are all professionals in the business with credentials. They have attended schools such as Harvard, Yale, NYU and USC just to name a few. WHAT CAN A PARENT DO FOR THEIR CHILD TO BE A SUCCESS AT YFA? We try to accept young artists with supportive and engaged parents. Parents should be active and a guiding force at the Youth Film Academy. We especially recommend this if the young actors are under the age of 13. The parents should ask questions of the administration especially if they do not understand a part of the process. HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM GROWING AND SUCCESSFULLY DEVELOPING? Ask your professors and your administrators as you go through your program. We suggest that you and your parents meet with the professors or administrators throughout your time at the Youth Film Academy. CAN I WORK IN THE INDUSTRY WHILE I STUDY WITH YOU? Yes. However, we ask that all working students coordinate with our Dean of Education for make up classes. Classes have to be completed and taken seriously. DO YOU HOLD CASTING AUDITIONS? We are a Film School, first and foremost. Occasionally Producers and Directors will come out and interview talent for upcoming projects. Also production companies will rent our space and auditions will be held in our studios, but we do not currently hold casting calls. WILL THE YOUTH FILM ACADEMY HELP ME GET A JOB? Yes and no. Just telling someone you went to Youth Film Academy won’t get you a job. But if you apply the skills you will learn to auditions and then use these skills as a foundation to build upon, the answer is a resounding YES. ARE THERE ANY SUCCESS STORIES FROM YOUTH FILM ACADEMY? Yes. We have several success stories to come out of YFA with many more to come. Students are constantly working. We currently have students in Los Angeles, New York and here in the DC metro area shooting films. WILL I BE ABLE TO KEEP IN CONTACT WITH INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS I MEET AT YFA AFTER COMPLETING THE PROGRAM? Just like with your traditional school that will be entirely up to you. Any contact information you obtain while attending the Youth Film Academy you may use after you complete the program. UPON GRADUATION, WILL I GET A CERTIFICATE OR DIPLOMA? A certificate will be presented upon completion of the Superstar, Visionary and Paramount Programs. |
